Devajit Saikia to be new ACA secretary

GUWAHATI, Jan 10 - Former Ranji player and the present vice president of the Assam Cricket Association (ACA), Devajit Saikia is all set to become the new secretary of the State cricket body.

He will be elected unopposed in the ACA election to be held on Sunday as his opponent Kamakhya Saikia, who is also a former Ranji player has withdrawn his nomination today for the glamorous post. However, Kamakhya will be elected as joint secretary as his opponents Prakash Deka and Saibal Sen Gupta have withdrawn their nominations. Sen Gupta will be the Apex Council Member unopposed.

On the other hand, present secretary Pradip Buragohain will contest for the president�s post against Romen Dutta of Nazira. Election will also be held for the treasurer�s post where Tridip Konwar of Tinsukia will contest against Prakash Deka of Mangaldai.

Altogether 30 district members have been granted voting rights by the Election Commissioner Biren Dutta while the names of voters from Karimganj, Dibrugarh and Gauhati Universities have been rejected by the EC.
