Detailed business plan for pineapple farmers on cards

GUWAHATI, June 10 - The Commissioner-cum-Secretary (Agriculture) Amlan Baruah and Deputy Director of Horticulture Dr Pranab Kumar Mahanta along with senior officials visited the campus of Hmar Agro Organic Producer Company Limited at Lakhipur in Cachar district on Saturday.

Hmar Agro Organic Producer Company Ltd, a farmers producers company (FPC), was created under Mission Organic Value Chain Development for the north eastern region.

It has been working with 500 farmers and has 500 hectares of land which is being used for organic pineapple cultivation.

The visiting officials attended a meeting of the company and informed the farmers about provisions for creating infrastructure like pack house, custom hiring centre and processing units under the scheme by which the FPC would be able to earn more profit through value addition of the produce.

Regarding marketing of pineapple, a detailed business plan would be prepared for the benefit of the farmers.

The team also visited the pineapple fields of the company.

Due to the initiative taken by the Directorate of Horticulture, four truckloads of pineapple produced by Hmar Agro Organic Producer Company Ltd were transported and sold at the Organic Market at Panjabari in Guwahati.
