Deserted by husband, woman seeks relief

BISWANATH CHARIALI, May 22 � A sense of gloom has pervaded Shantipur here following abandoning of a wife by her husband after the former gave birth to two girl childs.

According to information available one Partha De, a resident of Shantipur here had married Mamani De (26) in 2007. But her in-laws allegedly started to torture her soon after the marriage and her husband also joined them. He did not even hesitate to singe her with burning cigarette stubs and often forced her to spend nights outside their home.

A few months later, they shifted to a rented house where she gave birth to a girl child. Another girl child was subsequently born to them seven months back. Partha�s torture upon his wife, Mamani reached its height after the birth of their second daughter.

Unfortunately, Partha suddenly disappeared from his home since December 1 last year. Mamani filed an FIR at Biswanath Chariali Police Station informing about her husband�s disappearance. But the police has failed to trace out his whereabouts.

Mamani has alleged that Partha�s parents have kept him hidden somewhere in Karbi Anglong.

Presently Mamani is finding it very difficult to earn her livelihood while staying in a rented house at Ambari. Fortunately, a women�s cell has provided her a sewing machine recently with which she has been struggling to face the hurdles of life. The women under distress has sought the Government�s help, particularly for her two daughters.
