Deputy Speaker Paul resigns

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, May 8 - Silchar MLA Dilip Kumar Paul today resigned from the post of Deputy Speaker of the Assam Legislative Assembly, saying he wanted to be a free man as he was not comfortable with the protocol full diplomatic life.

Besides tendering his resignation through a letter to the Speaker, Paul also informed about his decision to the Chief Minister in writing.

I had been telling the Chief Minister how uncomfortable I had been feeling. It was as if I was in jail. Finally, I have freed myself from the bondage of this protocol-full diplomatic life, Paul said.

I am grateful to the Chief Minister and all other party workers. I am feeling light now, he added.

He had been serving as a Deputy Speaker for the last 23 months.

Paul also wrote a separate letter to the DGP asking him withdraw the security personnel and house guards provided to him.
