By Staff correspondent

DIBRUGARH, Nov 12 Allegations are mounting again that skilled local workers have been deprived of works at the gas cracker project site of the Brahmaputra Cracker and Polymer Limited (BCPL) at Lepetkatta.

BCPL Shramik Sangha has alleged that several construction companies engaged at the site have refused to recruit local workers. Most of the companies have preferred to hire workers from outside the state although there are enough trained workers in the state, Herombo Sonowal, president, BCPL Shramik Sangha said.

All Assam Welder Association, BCPL unit has alleged that McNally Bharat Engineering Company Limited and S L P Engineering Private Limited Companies recently recruited more than 50 workers (welders) from outside despite the fact that several local welders were seeking jobs at the site here almost every day.

BCPL Shramik Sangha and All Assam Welder Association have threatened to launch agitations if the two mentioned companies failed to recruit local workers within 24 hours.
