Deplorable state of Swahid Kamala Miri Road in Golaghat dist resented

By Correspondent

DERGAON, May 18 - The condition of the Swahid Kamala Miri Road in Golaghat district is so pathetic that the residents of the remote areas have to face serious difficulties while commuting through the road.

The road connects National Highway-37 to Upper Temera along with 10 flood-prone agriculture-based villages on the north part of river Gelabeel.

As many as 10,000 people are dependent on the road for communication with other parts of the state.

The PWD road, with a length of 5 kms, was named after noted freedom fighter Swahid Kamala Miri. Kamala Miri was born at Gulung Temera under Rangamati Mouza under Khumtai revenue circle of Golaghat district.

More than 80 per cent of the road is always under floodwaters during the monsoon season. As a result, children cannot attend classes during the rainy season.

Recently, the condition of the road has deteriorated further and big potholes on the road have converted the road into a big pond.

Further, due to unauthorised dumping of sand and stone on either side of the road from Badulipar Tiniali, life of the commuters have become miserable. Specially, school children and patients have to face a lot of trouble.

The residents have demanded immediate repair of the road. The indifferent role of the government towards the repair of this important road has been condemned by all, Chandan Gogoi, a local scribe of Badulipar said.

The negligence shown by the government is certainly a dishonour to the martyr after whom the road has been named, he added.
