Dental college in Imphal soon

By Correspondent

IMPHAL, July 31 The Dental College of Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) at Imphal will be inaugurated shortly as the Central government has given the relevant permission for it. The session is likely to start from August 1, 2012, said media advisor of RIMS in a press release here.

The RIMS authority is in constant touch with the Manipur University officials in this regard. The intake capacity is 50 students per year from the northeastern States, excluding Assam, it added. Being the host State, Manipur may get a substantial number of seats. Some seats are reserved for children of RIMS employees.

This dental college will be of big help to the students of Manipur. All these years, almost all students have been undergoing dental studies in private colleges by paying huge capitation fees, etc. However, as in case of the college of nursing, dental college students will have to pay a nominal fee, too.

The inordinate delay in obtaining the permission was due closure of the file in 2010 in the Union Health Ministry. However Prof N Damayanti, member of the Dental College Development Committee, left no stone unturned to expedite the matter. All the required infrastructures are being built and permanent buildings are under construction, the release added.

The admission of the third batch of students of the college of nursing will soon be held, sources said.
