DOOMDOOMA, Oct 11 - For the first time in the entire north-eastern region, Indian Railway has introduced Diesel Electric Multiple Unit (DMEU) train service from October 8 on an experimental basis between Dibrugarh town and Dangari, which is the first railway track of Assam laid by AR&T Company during the British rule in 1881. This historic railway track is known as Dibru-Sadiya Railway Track. The service was also introduced between Dibrugarh town and Ledo section of the track simultaneously.
According to Tinsukia Railway Division office, DEMU train no. 75909 will leave Dibrugarh town for Dangari at 10: 45 am and will reach Dangari at 1:40 pm. Again, DEMU train no. 75910 will leave Dangari for Dibrugarh town at 2 pm and will reach its destination at 4:50 pm.
Various organisations of this greater area including Makum-Saikhowa Railpath Suraksha Samity (MSRSS), Doomdooma Press Club have been demanding the railway authority to introduce more train services on this track for a long time. Only one passenger train was running on this track between Tinsukia and Dangari.
People of this area have expressed satisfaction over the introduction of DEMU train service. MSRSS general secretary Dhiren Deka told this correspondent that his organisation has been demanding expansion of railway service in this area since its inception. Due to their continuous efforts, the Makum-Dangari portion of this historic railway track was converted to broad gauge and a passenger train between Tinsukia and Dangari was introduced in 2002.
Doomdooma Press Club also expressed satisfaction over the introduction of DEMU train service on this historic railway track. A team of journalists from Doomdooma made a journey in the DEMU train from Doomdooma to Dangari. The scribes� body has urged the people of this greater area to avail the train service.
