IMPHAL, Aug 17 - Women protesters staged sit-in demonstrations here, demanding justice for the schoolgirl who died under mysterious circumstances recently. The Class VII student was found dead in her school hostel on July 18 last.
Normal business in the busy Khwairamband Keithel where women�s market complexes and other shopping outlets are located, was hit during the day.
A sit-in demonstration was also held at Ima Keithel, the iconic women�s market, by women vendors in traditional mourning attire. Womenfolk of various localities including Thangmeiband, Nagamapal Kangjabi Leirak Machin, Soram Leirak, etc., staged similar demonstrations.
The women protesters also demanded unconditional release of some arrested functionaries of the Joint Action Committee (JAC) formed after the death of the girl student. Two general strikes were also called by the JAC in the recent past in protest against the incident.
