GUWAHATI, Aug 19 - The Assam College Teachers� Association on Tuesday staged a protest demonstration in front of the Directorate of Higher Education, Kahilipara, in support of its various demands.
The college teachers demanded due payment to the 734 teachers who were on two years� probation during the period from 2004 to 2009 on a meagre salary of Rs 5,000 per month. The protesters said that such practice existed in no other part of the country, and that even the associate professors in different colleges of the state drew their salaries as per the UGC pay scale.
The college teachers also protested against the alleged anomalies, corruption and inefficiency in the Directorate of Higher Education. They also demanded filling up of vacant posts in different schools and colleges and creation of more posts in the colleges.
