BISWANATH CHARIALI, Jan 25 - Several organisations under the initiative of All Assam Gorkha Students Union (AAGSU) of Biswanath district unit in association with the villagers staged a demonstration in front of the office of the deputy commissioner of Biswanath district on Wednesday protesting the alleged inaction of the Department of Excise against the rampant illicit trade of country-made liquor and opium in and around Galia village area under Biswanath Chariali Police Station.

Student bodies, including AASU, AJYCP, AATSAA, AASA, AAMSU and TAYCP condemned the government indifferent attitude towards the issue and demanded quick action against the guilty persons associated with this trade.

They alleged that unrestrained selling of such things in the village areas had led to the ruining of many a life, particularly youths. Later, a memorandum was submitted to the deputy commissioner through which government action was sought within February 15.
