By Correspondent

TINSUKIA, Oct 14 - The Tinsukia district committee of the Nikhil Bharat Krishak Sabha staged a dharna in front of the Tinsukia Deputy Commissioners office complex on Tuesday, demanding a permanent solution to the flood and erosion problem in Tinsukia district.

The protesters said that in spite of spending crores of rupees to check erosion by the Brahmaputra Board, the scene has not improved. The people of Dirak-Sumoni, Dhola-Hatighuli and West Saikhowa area have been living in constant fear due to the possibility of the breach of embankments.

The Krishak Sabha demanded that the courses of the Na Dehing, Lohit and Debang rivers should be controlled in a scientific manner for a permanent mechanism to save the Dirak Sumoni embankment. They also demanded the rehabilitation of the people hit by flood and erosion in the district with appropriate compensation.
