Demand to revoke orders

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Oct 19 - The Association of Engineers, Assam State Electricity Board (ASEB), is on an agitation to get the suspension orders against two senior members withdrawn. It had already staged a one-hour pen-down strike on Tuesday.

The Association has threatened to intensify its agitation if the Assam Power Distribution Company Ltd and the Assam Electricity Grid Corporation Ltd authorities fail to revoke the suspension orders against the two senior members by October 21. It will announce its next phase of agitation on October 24.

The Association submitted memoranda to the Chairman and Managing Directors of the APDCL and the AEGCL on October 15 in this regard.

It may be mentioned here that the APDCL and AEGCL authorities suspended Ranjit Kumar Nath, General Manager of the Nagaon zone of the APDCL, and Lankeswar Sarma, General Manager, AEGCL, on October 13 following an incident on October 12 with immediate effect for failure to maintain uninterrupted power supply during the visit of the Honble Chief Minister, Assam to Nagaon on 12/10/2016. The rank of the General Manager in the APDCL and AEGCL is equivalent to the rank of the Additional Chief Engineer in State Government departments.

A one-man probe commission with Rajen Deka, Chief General Manager (Distribution) of the Central Assam Electrical Zone, as its head, has been constituted by the MD, APDCL, to submit a report on the above incident by October 21.
