Demand to name East-West Corridor after Vajpayee

HAILAKANDI, Aug 20 - Lok Jagaran Mancha has demanded to dedicate the Silchar-Saurashtra Mahasadak in the name of Late Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. In a district-level meeting held here on Sunday, organised to pay tributes to late Vajpayee, members of the organisation said that the mahasadak, which is popularly known as East-West Corridor, is the brain child of Vajpayee and it should be named after him.

They also narrated the life and activities of Vajpayee and said that he was a perfect leader and an ideal person in the context of present day politics. A procession was also organised by the mancha in the main thoroughfares of Hailakandi town which was attended by Sudip Debroy of the mancha, district president of BJP Subrata Nath, Rupamoy Biswas of RSS, Bikramjit Bhattacharjee of Bajrang Dal, Abhijit Dey of ABVP, Bilal Uddin Laskar and Anwar Hussain Laskar of BJP�s Minority Morcha, Saikat Dutta Choudhury, Bivash Singha and Santu Sarda of BJP�s Yuva Morcha, Gautam Gupta, among others.

Hailakandi�s Srikishan Sarada College also paid deep tributes to Vajpayee. In a meeting held under the presidentship of the principal of the college, Dr BC Pradhan, various speakers spoke on late prime minister�s contribution towards the development of the country. Similar meeting was also held at SK Roy College at Katlicherra under the presidentship of the principal Dipak Kanti Aich and was addressed by Manik Gupta, Bidit Ranjan Choudhury, Manish Roy, among others. They also observed one minute�s silence in memory of late Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

A plantation drive was organised by the members of Club Pubali in Hailakandi to pay tribute to late Vajpayee. The plantation programme started with the paying of floral tribute to the portrait of Vajpayee. They planted siblings of various species in the different parts of Hailakandi district. A meeting was also held on the occasion and it was presided over by club president Sibnarayan Ravidas.
