Demand on to appoint Rupshikha as OIL CMD

By Staff correspondent

DIBRUGARH, July 9 - Members of the Asom Yuba Parishad, the youth wing of the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and its women wing, Asom Mahila Parishad, on Wednesday staged a gherao programme at the gate of the Administrative Building of the Oil India Limited (OIL), Duliajan, in protest against the alleged reluctance of the Union Government to appoint Rupshikha Borah as the OIL CMD despite the Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB) recommending her name for the post.

The AGP-affiliated organisations staged the gherao programme for almost two hours. While condemning the Bharatiya Janata Party for its anti-Assamese position, the protesters raised slogans against Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The women protestors also criticised the BJP for not appointing an eligible woman.

Asom Yuba Parishad president Sunil Rajkonwar alleged that the reluctance of the Modi-led Union Government to appoint an Assamese woman to the top OIL post proves the BJPs anti-Assamese and anti-woman attitude.

We will not tolerate such anti-Assamese governance. Prime Minister Modi must not deprive Assamese people of their rights, Rajkonwar said. The protesters demanded that the name recommended for the post of the OIL CMD be notified without any delay.
