Demand for security of NE students staying in metros

GUWAHATI, March 27 - Decrying the discrimination against and attacks on students of Assam and other northeastern States studying in New Delhi and other metros, the All India Tribal Students� Association, Assam (AITSAA) staged a protest demonstration at Barbari Magazine Tiniali in the city today.

The AITSAA demanded security of the northeastern students living in others parts of the country.

They protesters also took out a protest rally and shouted slogans like �Narendra Modi go back�, �Tarun Gogoi go back�, etc, and showed black flag to both the Centre and the State Government, decrying �anti-tribal rules and lackadaisical attitude towards tribal people.�

AITSAA advisor Arindom Prince Panging claimed that the students of the northeastern region were frequent victims of molestation, and mental and physical torture in Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore and in the other states that provide higher educational facilities.

The protesters also burnt effigies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi for their alleged failure in protecting the lives and dignity of the students of the Northeast outside the region.

The AITSAA also demanded quick and proper investigation by Delhi Police into the murder of Angshuman Padun. It further demanded a CBI probe into the murder of Angshuman within a week, failing which the AITSAA would ban the BJP and the Congress in tribal areas. It also demanded a compensation of Rs 50 lakh as compensation to the victim�s family.
