Demand for repairing Barak Valley highways

HAILAKANDI, Dec 19 - The Barak Development Parishad of Hailakandi district in a memorandum to Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi has demanded immediate repairing of all the damaged national highways of Barak Valley.

A delegation of the Parishad led by its president M Hifjur Rahman Laskar recently met the Chief Minister at his residence in Guwahati and handed over the memorandum. In the memorandum, they pointed out the pitiable condition of the highways, particularly from Karimganj to Dhaleswari and Silchar to Katakhal, and demanded immediate repairing of these roads for the benefit of the people of Barak Valley as well as Tripura and Mizoram.

They also raised questions on the quality of work in the Dhaleswar-Bairabi (Mizoram) section of the NH-154 via Hailakandi and demanded a thorough inquiry into the road project. Rahman later said that the Chief Minister also agreed to the matter and assured the delegation that the repairing works will be started soon on these roads.

The delegation comprised the organisation�s office-bearers HM Fakrul Islam Laskar, Biswajit Das, Sekul Alam Mazumdar and Anwar Hussain Barbhuiya among others.
