Demand for Kuki Dev Council

NEW DELHI, Sept 1 � Expressing dismay at the lack of forward movement in the peace process, United Kuki Liberation Front (UKLF) has demanded creation of Kuki Development Council (KDC) on the lines of Bodoland Territorial Council.

The Kuki militant outfit has ceasefire agreement with Governments of India and Manipur and its cadres are currently in designated camps in the Hill areas of Manipur. The Kuki outfit is demanding Sixth Schedule comprising two hill districts of Chandel and Churachandpur and portion of Senapati district.

A delegation representing UKLF that called on Union Home Minister, P Chidambaram said that on August 22, the Centre has extended the ceasefire pact with the Kuki National Organisation (KNO) and the United People�s Front (UPF) for 45 days.
