Delayed funds deter Dima Hasao development

By Correspondent

HAFLONG, Oct 11 Delay in release of funds to the Dima Hasao Autonomous Council is the prime hindrance in the development of the district, opined conscious citizens of the district.

It has been learnt that the fund for the DHAC was to be released in two installments, once in April/May, 2011 and the other in September/October, 2011 but the DHAC never got the funds on time resulting in immense difficulties.

The second installment of 2009-2010 has also not been received by the DHAC, while the first installment of 2010-2011 has also not been received yet.

In fact, the development works like road construction, plantation etc are seasonal and these are to be done on time otherwise these become useless and the funds meant for these works either lapse or get misused.

In this regard, Hamjanan Langthasa, Executive Member met the HAD Minister Khorsing Engti and the chief secretary, Govt of Assam and requested to do the needful.

Talking to this correspondent, Langthasa disclosed that the chief secretary gave a patient hearing and his response was positive. He assured that from now on, he will try to streamline the fund flow to the DHAC.

Meanwhile, Depolal Hojai, Chairman, Dima Hasao Autonomous Council also met HAD Minister regarding the release of the funds. He was also assured the fund would be released following formalities.

The people of Dima Hasao in particular are of the opinion that Dispur can play a pivotal role for the development of this district since the normalcy has returned the district to a great extent. It has become a need of the hour for Dispur to help out the Dima Hasao district to regain its lost glory.
