Deka satradhikar of Madhupur Satra assaulted

GOSSAIGAON, June 24 - Pitambar Bhakat, the deka satradhikar of Madhupur Satra, Coochbehar, West Bengal, was allegedly assaulted by one Pintu Roy on June 22nd last. Bhakat who was severely injured was immediately admitted to a hospital at Coochbehar for treatment.

The Asom Satra Mahasabha has strongly protested the physical assault on the deka satradhikar of Madhupur Satra. In a statement from Sonari, the secretary Dipak Baruah has urged both the West Bengal and Assam governments to take strong action against the antisocial elements engaged in vitiating the atmosphere. He alleged that antisocial acts like alcohol and flesh consumption, gambling and prostitution have polluted the social atmosphere around the satra hurting the sentiments of the devotees of the satra. �The incident that happened on June 22 is a most heart-rending one and these should be stopped at all costs. We the Assamese people must rescue its glory and sanctity,� it said adding that Baruah also urged the government to give full security to the Madhupur Satra and the satradhikars. He also prayed for the early recovery of the deka satradhikar.
