Deficit monsoon rains in most of NE

GUWAHATI, Sept 23 - Barring Mizoram and Tripura, monsoon rainfall over NE region this year is not excessive, according to records of the region�s monsoon rainfall for the current year, available till date.

The records available with Regional Meteorology Centre (RMC) here state that Arunachal Pradesh received a total of 1407.3 mm of rainfall between June 1 and September 21, against its normal of 1670.1 mm, which is 16 per cent less than normal.

Assam received 1374.7 mm of rainfall during this period, against the normal of 1450.8 mm, which is five per cent less than normal. Manipur recorded 879.9 mm of rainfall, against normal of 1321 mm, which is again 33 per cent lower than normal for the period.

Meghalaya received 2358.4 mm of rainfall, against normal of 2666.9 mm, 12 per cent less than normal. Nagaland reported 886.9 mm of rainfall, against normal of 1275.1 mm, about 30 per cent less.

On the other hand, Mizoram received 2133.7 mm during the period, against normal of 1605.7mm, 33 per cent above normal. Tripura recorded 1849 mm of rainfall, against normal of 1412.8 mm, which is 31 per cent more than normal.
