NEW DELHI, Oct 18 - The Congress party on Tuesday petitioned the Election Commission of India demanding that the merger of the Arunachal unit of the Congress party with the Peoples Party of Arunachal Pradesh (PPA) be declared invalid and null and void.

The three-member delegation of AICC, comprising former Chief Minister Nabam Tuki and AICC secretary Dr K Jayakumar, today submitted a memorandum to the Chief Election Commissioner stating that the PPA had claimed to have passed a resolution (at a meeting on September 16, in which 43 Congress leaders were present), declaring that leaders, office-bearers along with members of the legislature party of the Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee have merged with the PPA.

The AICC claimed that the meeting of Arunachal Pradesh Congress and the decision as claimed by the PPA is baseless and false. There was no decision taken by AICC or its State unit for merger of the Pradesh Congress with PPA. The alleged merger is not sustainable in the eyes of law, the Congress leaders claimed.
