TEZPUR, Oct 28 - The All Assam Contractual High School Teachers� Body has hailed the State Government�s decision to regularise their posts besides releasing of pending salaries.
In a press release, Amit Narzary and Biman Kumar Nath, president and the secretary of the Sonitpur District Contractual Teachers' Association, respectively, said that 6,434 teachers have been serving at various high schools across the State on contractual basis for the last 10 years thereby meeting the shortage of teachers in different subjects.
�During 2010-11, in total 6,434 teachers were appointed in different schools in the State under the Education Department on contractual basis. Since then we have been serving our concerned schools with a commitment of dedicated service which is reflected in the HSLC examinations of past few years,� they stated in the release.
However, they have pointed out that though the Government had engaged them on contractual basis with the commitment of regularisation of their posts in the later years, it remained an unsolved issue for a half decade due to the lackadaisical attitude of the concerned department and the State Government as well.
�Meanwhile, the Assam Government, under the initiative of the present Education Minister Sarat Barkataki, has taken a remarkable step to regularise the same posts adjusting the on-duty teachers against the posts lying vacant in various schools across the State,� the duo said, adding that they welcomed the decision of the Government which has brought a ray of hope to them and releasing of salary of a month has also soothed the need of the teachers.
However, expressing total dissatisfaction over certain report published in some dailies against the process, the duo office-bearers of the teachers� body clarified that whatever appeared in the those dailies was not their opinion which could hamper the process.
