SILCHAR, Aug 16 - The 73rd Independence Day assumes significance mainly due to the historic decision taken by the Central Government in the Parliament regarding the status of Jammu and Kashmir, feels Minister of Forests, Fisheries and Excise Parimal Suklabaidya.
Delivering the Independence Day address on Thursday after unfurling the Tricolour at the SM Dev stadium, Suklabaidya said, �the decision taken by the Government regarding Jammu & Kashmir has reiterated the very essence of right to equality for all in the nation. The circumstances has made this Independence Day celebrations even more vibrant as we seek to resolve to make the �Ek Desh, Ek Niti� guide our country towards prosperity.�
Remembering the sacrifices of Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi, Parimal said that contributions of Kushal Konwar, Rani Gaidinliu, Mukunda Kakati and others towards India�s freedom struggle deserves mention.
Narrating an account of the performances of the State government, Parimal said that under the leadership of Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, the BJP-led government has been able to successfully manifest �Sab ka Saath, Saab Ka Vikas, Sab Ka Vishwas� ideology envisioned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The Minister, in his speech, said that over 2 lakh houses have been made so far for the beneficiaries under the PMAY scheme for 2019-20 financial year. Also, 31,606 youths have been absorbed in different job avenues in the recent years together with 36,856 such youths from the economically weaker section of the society in the rural areas were provided skill-based training under Deen Dayal Upadhyay Grameen Kaushal Vikas Yojna, he informed.
Earlier, the minister inspected the guard of honour presented by police, paramilitary forces, NCC cadets and students from different institutions during the parade. Freedom fighters Mahesh Narayan Das, Arati Das and Surendra Sinha were felicitated on the occasion. Moreover, besides cultural events, winners of different contests were given away prizes and words of inspiration were exchanged to mark the occasion.
The Tricolour was hoisted across schools, colleges, offices private establishments as people immersed in the joy of freedom. Sweets and fruits were distributed to inmates of Central Jail and also to the patients at hospitals. Statues of great personalities were illuminated with Tricolour lights as a part of the celebration. Silchar MP Dr Rajdeep Roy, Deputy Speaker Aminul Haque Laskar, MLA Dilip Kumar Paul, Kishore Nath and others, former Union Minister Kabindra Purakayastha, top police officials including DIG (SR) Prashanta Kumar Dutta were among others attending the celebrations.
