Debraj Roy�s statue unveiled

GOLAGHAT, Jan 25 � Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi unveiled the statue of Deb Raj Roy who was the first donor of the Debraj Roy College, Golaghat. A meeting on the occasion was held where Gogoi underlined the contributions of the teachers in the all-around development of the college, in the field of education and intellectual progress. The Chief Minister also announced a financial aid of Rs 2 crore for the infrastructural development of the college.

Gogoi also released three books namely, Reflection written by Dr R Sarma and D Phukan, Debrajianar Nirbachit Galpa written by Dr Pabitra Chutia and J Bhattacharjee and New Horizon.

The welcome address was delivered by Dr Putul Saikia, Principal DR College and Dr Anil Kumar Barua, ex-principal of DR College from donors� family. The meeting was attended by Jolly Sonowal, Deputy Commissioner, Golaghat, Dr Azit Barua, chairman GMB, Bishmita Gogoi, MLA etc.

The Chief Minister also visited Dabidubi Spinning Mill area and announced that the mill will be revived. Googoi also laid the foundation stones of Jorhat-Kamarbanddha road at Barjan, under Khumtai constituency to be constructed at a cost of Rs 22.13 crore and Barhola-Garanga road to be constructed at a cost of Rs 29.40 crore under the Assam State Road Project.

Gogoi also attended a meeting held at Barjan where Prithibi Majhi, Revenue Minister, Rana Goswami, MLA, Jorhat, Gaurav Gogoi, son of the Chief Minister, took part and also participated as the chief guest at a meeting of the Amateur Theatre Hall, Golaghat where Umesh Lahkar, a social activist and businessman was conferred Golaghat Jyoti award by the Golaghat Municipal Board.
