Death anniversary of freedom fighter Jadonang held

IMPHAL, Aug 29 - The 87th death anniversary of freedom fighter Haipou Jadonang was observed in Manipur on Wednesday to remember his heroic role against the British rule.

Chief Minister N Biren Singh attended the death anniversary function held at Leishangkhong Kabui village in Imphal West district.

Deputy Chief Minister Yumnam Joykumar Singh and Health Minister L Jayantakumar Singh paid floral tributes on the statue of the freedom fighter at the Haipou Jadonang Memorial Park at Keishampat here. A two-minute silence was also observed as a mark of respect to the freedom fighter.

Speakers shared the heroic contributions of Jadonang to regain sovereignty from the mighty British Raj of those days. His early demise at the age of 26 years was an irreparable loss to Manipur, they added.

Meanwhile, the Zelaingrong Union (Assam Manipur Nagaland), All Manipur United Clubs Organisation and United Committee Manipur jointly submitted a memorandum to the Government, urging to make the death anniversary of Jadonang a State holiday.
