Deadline set to resolve Bhuvan Valley crisis

By Correspondent

SILCHAR, Oct 13 - The Cachar district administration has decided to take over the Bhuvan Valley Tea Estate if the garden management fails to respond to the deadline set by it to resolve the present crisis in the garden which has been closed for some time.

Cachar DC S Vishwanathan, after a meeting with officials of the Labour Department, Tea Association of India, Barak Valley branch, Deputy Director, Tea Board, and others, set a deadline till tomorrow afternoon for the tea garden management to respond to the issue.

DC Vishwanathan told this correspondent today that the Lakhipur SDO is looking after the distribution of rations to workers. A medical team is monitoring the anaemia cases in the garden. But the management must settle the wages and other necessary facilities for workers.

The tea garden management has been intimated about the deadline. We have provided interim relief to the workers. But if the management fails to respond to the situation by 12 pm on Wednesday, the district administration may file an FIR against the management for lapses and may also think about taking over the tea garden in the interest of the workers, Vishwanathan added.
