By Sobhapati Samom

IMPHAL, April 17 A housewife who was cremated four years ago was found alive. The husband L Chaoba and his family who had spent more than six months behind bars on the charge of murdering the housewife, informed this to the media here on Thursday.

The housewife has been identified as one Konthoujam Naobi Devi, daughter of Nilamani and Kunjarani Devi of Tentha Marongband in Thoubal district of Manipur.

The 25 year-old husband Chaoba of Tentha Marongband said his young wife Naobi (19) went missing in August 2011. Later, he lodged a missing case at Kumbi Police station and also published the missing report in some local daily with her picture. However, his effort to trace his wife was fruitless.

On August 21, 2011, the Officer-in-charge of Kumbi police station had notified through local dailies that a corpse of a 35 to 40 year-old woman was found near Ethai village and kept at RIMS morgue for identification.

Meanwhile, the mother of the missing young housewife along with some locals claimed the body the same day, he stated. Later, his wifes family along with a mob dismantled his house and forcibly performed the last rites of the body inside the premises. Chaobas family was not allowed to identify the body before the body was consigned to flames by Naobis mother.

Later, in March 2012, Naobis mother filed an FIR against Chaoba under Section 364/302/341 at Kumbi police station. Thus Chaoba along with his parents landed behind bars for nearly six months. However, later they were released from custody.

Recently, Naobi was found hiding along with her mother at Nongdam Tangkhul village along with a new-born child and a new husband one Tekcham Sanahal of Keibi Heikak Mapal under Lamlai police station in Imphal East district.

Naobi along with her mother and the new husband have been handed over to police and they are currently detained under Thoubal Police custody.

The angry family of Chaoba said they will file cases against Naobi and her family besides police officials for their wrong confinement.
