By Correspondent

MANGALDAI, Aug 18 - Parents and guardians of the students of Kendriya Vidyalaya, Mangaldai, on Wednesday moved the Darrang Deputy Commissioner and the chairman of the Vidyalaya Management Committee (VMC), demanding safety and security of their wards during school hours.

Earlier, they held a meeting at the school campus and passed several resolutions, including a demand for action against the culprits involved in the incident of vandalism of school property on Tuesday night.

Meanwhile, the school authorities have suspended classes till Saturday. Mangaldai Police registered a case (No. 674 /17 u/s 447/336/427/34 of the IPC r/w 3 of the PDPP Act) on the basis of an FIR lodged by the principal of the school on Wednesday.

According to Lohit Chandra Rabha, officer in-charge of the Mangaldai Police Station, two local youths have been picked up for interrogation. It may be mentioned here that a dispute between the school authorities and a section of local villagers has been hanging fire over the closure of the portion of a road passing through the school campus, which was originally not on the official revenue map for completion of the boundary wall.

The chairman of the VMC, Ashok Kumar Barman, has held a series of discussions with representatives of local villagers in March and constructed an alternative concrete road just outside the eastern boundary of the school. However, some sections of people have been trying to disrupt the matter, allegedly at the behest of political circles.
