Darrang admin assures free and fair polls

MANGALDAI, March 6 - The District Election Officer-cum-Deputy Commissioner of Darrang, Manoj Kumar, has assured free and fair elections in the four Assembly segments of the district which will go to polls on April 11 in the second phase.

Addressing a press conference at the DC�s conference hall, he said, �The district administration has completed all the necessary arrangements for ensuring a free and fair election and we are ready to deal with any attempt of the anti-social elements to create disturbance during the poll process.�

As per the guideline issued by the Election Commission, the district administration convened the first press meet to brief the mediapersons on the model code of conduct. �In total 7,09,481 electorates of the four constituencies � Kalaigaon, Sipajhar, Mangaldai (SC) and Dalgaon � will exercise their franchises in 795 polling stations to elect their representatives to the State Assembly. As many as 86 sector officers, 26 zonal officers, 795 presiding officers and 2,385 polling officers from various departments of the district have already been appointed,� the DC added.

Meanwhile, 160 numbers of polling stations in the district have been identified as very sensitive, 310 sensitive and 325 have been identified as comparatively safe polling stations.

Attending the press meet, the Superintendent of Police, Sunil Kumar, briefed the mediapersons on non-bailable warrant of arrest (NBWA). He added that the arm licence holders arm in the district have deposited their weapons in their respective police station.

The senior officials of the district administration, including Additional Deputy Commissioners Bidyut Bikash Bhagawati and Nara Narayan Nath, Election Officer, Mangaldai, Rahul Das, Circle Officer of Dalgaon and Sipajhar Revenue Circle Dr Ashraful Amin and Manali Jain, Assistant Commissioners Antara Gogoi and Pinky Borgoyary, also attended the meeting.
