Darrang AASU submits memo to Himanta

MANGALDAI, Sept 2 - The Darrang district unit of AASU on Friday submitted a memorandum to the State Education Minister, Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma over several issues related to the present academic environment and future job avenues for the youths of the district.

The memorandum, prepared on the basis of the resolutions passed in a public meeting held in the office of the AASU here recently and signed by the president and secretary of Darrang AASU, Khanindra Rajbongshi and Parag Kr Saharia respectively, was submitted to the Education Minister through Deputy Commissioner, Darrang.

The 12 charter of demands in the memorandum, among others, included � immediate functioning of the Industrial Training Institution (ITI) at Gerimari, Mangaldai, the building of which was inaugurated in February 2016 ; steps to start the pending construction work of the proposed polytechnic institution near Chapai, Mangaldai; upgrade Mangaldai College to a model college and steps to open PG curriculum in all the subjects in Arts and Science stream; sanction of fund for a modern college library and a boys� hostel for the college.

The list of demands also included introducing a new Science stream in Sipajhar College and all the government provincialised higher secondary schools in the district; filling up of all the vacant posts of subject teachers in those schools; provincialisation of Mangaldai Girls� College and introduction of new subjects in the college; improvement of infrastructure of Mangaldai Commerce College; establishment of an engineering and an agri-science college in the district, among others.
