Darrang AASU demands inquiry into anomalies

MANGALDAI, Dec 2 - Darrang AASU has demanded a high-level inquiry into the illegal construction of different Government buildings, including 32 schools, more than 60 anganwadi centres, over 2,000 IAY houses and six sub- health centres in land under PGR and VGR at Fuhuratoli village under Sipajhar Revenue Circle despite a Supreme Court and High Court ruling that no permanent structure can be erected in that area.

President of Darrang AASU Khanindra Rajbongshi, its secretary Parag Kumar Saharia, adviser Arup Kalita, president of Kuruwa Anchalik AASU Naba Rajbongshi, besides other office-bearers while addressing the media at their district office on Saturday demanded a high-level probe into all the construction works carried out since 2000 under Government schemes in the area, of which more than 77,000 bighas of Government land was under encroachment.

They also demanded exemplary punishment to the errant Government officials involved in blatant misuse of crores of public money.

Further, the AASU leaders flayed the State Government and the district administration alike for their failure to pay due compensation to the family members of local farmer Ananda Das even after ten days of his murder by encroachers at Fuhuratoli.

They also urged the concerned authority to carry out eviction in the area under reference to free all the Government land from encroachers within the next seven days and forewarned of a long-drawn mass agitational programme if the former failed to take necessary action.
