Danggo joins NPP

By Staff Correspondent

SHILLONG, July 25 - A confident Martin M Danggo today officially joined National Peoples Party (NPP) after quitting Congress, saying he would retain his seat which he has vacated recently.

After joining NPP at its party headquarters here, Danggo made his first appearance before the media and said, he is confident to win the election and his opponents should not bother to contest against him.

He joined NPP at a simple function held at the partys office in Shillong in the presence of State NPP president, WR Kharlukhi and party workers.

Citing upgradation of Ranikor as a civil sub-division as a motivation for him to join NPP, the former Speaker and five-time MLA from Ranikor said, he has demanded on several occasions for a civil sub-division, but the request was turned down by the previous Congress-led Government.

Danggo said NPP-led Meghalaya Democratic Alliance Government was the only Government that conceded to the demand of the people of Ranikor for upgradation of Ranikor Community and Rural Development Block into a Civil Sub-Division.

He added that the people of Ranikor have been demanding for a Civil Sub-Division since 2005 and all the successive Governments did not respond to it.

But when he was promised a civil sub-division by the present NPP-led MDA Government he decided to quit Congress and resigned from the seat.
