TEZPUR, April 17 - At a time when industrialisation in the region has been given top priority for checking the burning unemployment problem, Dabur India Limited is all set to open shop at the Industrial Growth Centre near Balipara in Sonitpur district and absorb local youths, besides manufacturing a variety of products.

Among the nations leading FMCG companies with revenue generation of over Rs 7,806.04 crore and market capitalisation of $5billion, Dabur is said to be the worlds largest ayurvedic and natural healthcare company having a legacy of quality and experience of over 131 years.

Representatives of the company performed bhumi puja at the aforementioned location on April 14 last in the presence of Director, Sahrukh Khan, Vice President (Operation), Rajib Ranjan, General Manager, Subudh Sinha, GM (HR), Partha Ganguli, Company Executive, GS Pathak, and Project Manager, AB Sarma, among others.

It may be pertinent to mention here that the Balipara-based Industrial Growth Centre in the Ghoramari-Balipara area covers around 1,450 bighas of land. It was set up with an intention to convert it into a growth engine for generating employment during the first tenure of the AGP regime.

Social worker Deben Narjary informed this scribe that the local people of the area, particularly the Boros, donated their land to the then ruling dispensation with an expectation of employment generation among the local youths through industrial projects.

However, the entire effort came a cropper due to lack of proper policy of the department concerned. Though a pharmaceutical company named NIXIL initially started a project at the site for producing medicine, in no time it closed down. Though the administrative building of the growth centre has all the required facilities, it is lying unused over the years, lamented Narjary.

Reportedly a world leader in Ayurvedic products with a portfolio of over 250 herbal and ayurvedic products, Dabur India has been widely appreciated by one and all in the area for taking up the multi-crore project.

Talking with this correspondent, the companys personnel informed that production of flagship brands with distinct brand identities, besides employment of locals in the construction work and in various posts after the mega project starts functioning will be the top priority of the company in the days to come.
