By The Assam Tribune

GUWAHATI, Oct 30 - A meeting which was convened for the distribution of cycles and handis among the Schedule Caste people of North Salmara under Abhaypuri sub-division was held recently in the premises of the Town Hall of North Salmara, an official press release stated.

The meeting was presided over by the Irrigation and Soil Conservation Minister Chandan Sarkar where SDO (Civil) Sarangapani Sharma, District Fishery Officer, SC Development officer Nagen Baishya, social activists and other officials were present in the distribution meeting.

Minister Sarkar informed that the 35 Legislative Assembly Constituencies of Abhayapuri South houses a huge population of Schedule Caste community people and by distribution of these implements the beneficiaries will benefit the poverty-stricken people a lot. It goes without saying that this is one such community which is under poverty line, or fits the BPL category.

The Minister said that the welfare works implemented by the Tarun Gogoi Government are never given due importance by a section of the media, though lapses, if any, are always given undue focus so as to disgrace the Congress party.

He also mentioned that the Schedule Caste people have to strive hard for their survival and the Government on its part is working diligently to give them the utmost benefits possible.

The Sub-Divisional Officer during the course of his speech said that by December next, all the distribution work will be completed, and that the peoples co-operation is required for successful implementation of the official programme.
