TEZPUR, Feb 4 - A five-day cultural training programme titled, �Introducing cultural inputs in curriculum� organised by the Centre for Cultural Resources and Training (CCRT), New Delhi in collaboration with the Education Department of Sonitpur district from January 29 ended on Saturday at the Government Girls� Higher Secondary School here.
The training programme which was specially organised for the school teachers under the initiative of DRP Prafulla Keot, was inaugurated by Inspector of Schools, SDC, Tezpur, Prabhat Das.
In his inaugural speech, Das spoke about the relevance and importance of the programme. He said, �besides academic progress, the students also have to be developed culturally. A culturally moulded child can always be a good and responsible citizen and this is only possible through education that involves culture.�
Earlier, speaking on the CCRT�s aims and objectives, Dr BB Vats said that at the philosophical core of CCRT lies a commitment to holistic education by encompassing the cognitive, emotional and spiritual development of children. To this end, the CCRT conducts education grounded in cultural knowledge and understanding as conducive to clarity, creativity, independence of thought, tolerance and compassion.
�Since inception, it has been contributing to strengthening of the foundation of the nation by making education culture-based and meaningful. It also revitalises the education system by creating an understanding and awareness among the teachers, students and educational administrators about the plurality of the regional cultures of India and integrating this knowledge with education,� Vats said.
Attending the first day�s programme, Hemanta Baruah from Dhekiajuli LOKD College delivered a speech on the topic: �Innovation in Education � The New Responsibilities of a Teacher� and urged the teaching fraternity to be dedicated towards their profession as the future of the nation depends upon them.
During the following programme, Assistant Teacher of Govt Girls� Higher Secondary School Anamika Gogoi, Dr Abani Baruah and Sandhani Dutta Kalita, Assistant Professor in the Department of English, LGB Girls� College delivered speeches on their respective topics like, Gender in Culture, Indian Health Tradition and Indian Language and Literature with Special Reference to Assam.
On the third day, Dr Mousumi Kandali, Assistant Professor in the Department of Cultural Studies, Tezpur University spoke on, �Indian Paintings-Fundamentals and Characteristics.� It was followed by learning of songs by the trainees and conducted by noted singer Simanta Kakoti.
During the training programme, lessons on craft work and making of origami by artiste Mayur Kanchan Baruah, an indepth lecture on the importance of cultural values in education by Dr Subhra Devi, Assistant Professor & Curator, Tezpur University, made the entire programme a lively one.
The programme ended with a felicitation and certificate-distribution function where DRP and noted teacher Prafulla Keot and Dr BB Vats from CCRT, New Delhi, expressed their gratitude to the participants for making the programme successful.
