TURA, July 23 - The situation in Mahendraganj area of South West Garo Hills district is under control after Monday�s mob violence. Adequate security measures have been taken to prevent untoward incidents.
There was no report of violence or untoward incident and curfew was relaxed for 10 hours from 8 am. However, it was reimposed from 6 pm to prevent vested interests from taking advantage of the volatile situation.
Section 144 of the CrPC is still in force in the area and movement of people has been restricted, particularly in trouble-prone areas like Mahendraganj Bazar, Bagicha-Thana area junction, Tosildarpara junction, Malidaspara-Nayapara, New Modakpara, Ghegapara, Nandirchar, Paulpara, Babupara, Silkona junction, Modakpara-Kulupara junction, Babupara-Mondalpara junction and Kazipara-Mathergaon-Shantipur area. The district administration is closely monitoring the situation.
Meanwhile, relief measures for the flood-affected people of Mahendraganj area, which were temporarily disrupted due to the violence, are being resumed. PHE vehicles distributing drinking water to relief camps and other vehicles carrying relief workers were also attacked during the violence yesterday.
