JALAH, July 24 The situation continues to be tense in Baksa district after a former student leader was shot dead at Mushalpur last evening, forcing the district administration to clamp indefinite curfew in the district.

Manoj Das (35), former general secretary of the Baksa unit of AASU and executive member of the Asom Sena, who was associated with the Ona Bodo Suraksa Samiti, was shot dead from point-blank range by four gunmen around 7.15 pm last evening. The miscreants fled from the spot after committing the crime.

Das was on his way to Mushalpur Chowk from his residence at Belguri Pathar on a bike, when motorcycle-borne gunmen shot at him near a bridge at Mushalpur Chowk. He was rushed to the hospital in Nalbari, but was declared brought dead by the doctors.
