IMPHAL, April 22 � Culling of poultry in the bird flu- infected zone here is continuing at a good pace today too.

Meanwhile, poultry farmers and traders association have demanded that welfare measures be taken up for them.

Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Services Director Dr N Rajendro said that culling of birds in almost 80 per cent of the areas in the infected zone have been covered so far. The department has deployed ten Rapid Response Teams (RRT) to combat the outbreak, he added. It may be mentioned that the State Government has classified areas within 1 km radius from the epicentre at ICAR at Lamphel as infected zone and areas within 10 km radius of the epicentre as surveillance zone.
