DIPHU, Jan 17 � Residents of Umrangso town were delighted to discover liquid gold this morning from an unused well. The authority of that small town had a tough time to control the crowd who gathered to amass petroleum gifted by nature. Dibakar Bora, Umrangso-based reporter of Dainik Asom newspaper said that people near Umrangso police station on Tuesday noticed gaseous substances emanating from the depth of a dry well, which was abandoned 10 years back. Attracted by the smell of gasoline, the residents noticed that the dry well was already considerably filled up with some gooey substance. The apprehensive local community collected a pail of liquid from the well which was a mixture of water and crude oil. To make sure that the substance contained hydrocarbon, they ignited the substance. The liquid blazed affirming that the substance was inflammable.
A team of experts from ONGC is arriving shortly to examine the fact.
