Crucial CWC meeting today

By The Assam Tribune

NEW DELHI, June 3 Faced with a grim economic situation and political challenges, the Congress Working Committee meeting tomorrow is expected to come out with a strategy to bolster the party-led UPA government, reports PTI.

To be presided over by party president Sonia Gandhi and attended by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and top ministers and leaders, the meeting could see the passage of a resolution calling for effective steps to provide relief to the common man facing rise in prices of essential commodities.

While on the economic situation, comparisons are being made with the 1991 crisis, the apex policy-making body of the Congress is meeting when fresh charges of corruption on coal block allocation have brought the government and particularly the Prime Minister under the Opposition attack on the basis of a draft CAG report.

It also comes close on the heels of a campaign by Anna Hazare and Ramdev in the capital on the issue of corruption.
