DOOMDOOMA, July 11 - Cracks have been detected in some pillars of the under-construction Dhola-Sadiya bridge over the Brahmaputra, putting a huge question mark over the quality of work being done by the Navayug Engineering Company, which is constructing the bridge.
A team of local scribes visited the site despite the
construction workers� attempt to prevent them from going near the bridge. The scribes detected a huge breach in the pillar No.129. The construction company tried to cover the portion with black paint.
Earlier also, cracks had been detected on the pillar No. 54, 86 and 137. But it seems that the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways is not taking the matter seriously.
The Saikhowa regional committee of the All Assam Students� Union, expressing serious doubts over the durability of the bridge, has demanded a high-level inquiry into the anomalies in the construction work.
