CPM to contest 3 seats in State

GUWAHATI, March 3 � The two major Left parties - CPI and CPI(M) - will contest one and three Lok Sabha seats from Assam respectively, during the forthcoming elections, with both parties aiming to emerge as the non-Congress non-BJP alternative.

The CPI(M) will be contesting the Barpeta, Tezpur and Silchar constituencies, while the CPI will put up its candidate from Jorhat.

CPI(M) state secretariat member Suprakash Talukdar told The Assam Tribune today said the party has nominated its State committee secretary and former MP Uddhab Barman from Barpeta, Khemraj Chetry from Tezpur and Rejamond Ali Borbhuiya from Silchar.

�We have held discussions with CPI. We will contest from three constituencies in the State, while CPI will contest from one seat,� he said.
