CPM is not Congresss friend, says AICC

By Correspondent

AGARTALA, Aug 3 - After the huge electoral debacle in West Bengal Assembly elections, AICC general secretary CP Joshi on Wednesday said the party would not compromise with the CPM-led Left Front in Tripura.

Partys electoral tie-up with the CPM in West Bengal was not delivered by the AICC rather the party had acted on suggestion based on the West Bengal Pradesh Congress Committee (WBPCC), he said at a press conference here.

Joshi, who arrived here to take stock of the organisational position of the party in the Marxist-ruled State, addressed a rally to boost the demoralised party leaders and workers.

At the press conference, Joshi clarified that the party had to shake hands with the CPM to save the parliamentary democracy. We are not friend at all, he said adding that the party wants to boost the organisation by restructuring PCC and its frontal organisations, he said.

The veteran leader also slammed the Left Front Government for its failure to bring prosperity in the State. The Left Government is in power for the past 15 years. But the condition is not well here, he said.

On the chit fund issue, Joshi promised the chit fund agencies would be prosecuted if the Congress storms back to power in the next Assembly elections.

Poking at the Left Front Government on the chit fund issue, Joshi said no responsible government could remain silent spectator when lakhs of people get duped.

Joshi also clarified the partys stand on the empowerment of Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC). We want economic empowerment of tribal council in true sense as there is severe financial constraint in taking up development activities, he added.
