CPM declares candidates list

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, March 3 The Communist Party of India (Marxist), Assam State Committee on Thursday stated that the development of Assam would be the biggest casualty in the event of either the BJP or Congress winning the forthcoming Assembly elections.

Declaring its candidates list, the party called upon all like-minded parties to come together to defeat the Congress and the BJP.

The party will field its candidates in 17 constituencies in the ensuing Assembly elections and it has come to a seat-sharing understanding with the other Left parties like the CPI and CPI (ML). In the last

Assembly elections, the party had fielded its candidates in 16 constituencies.

Secretary of the party Uddhav Barman while interacting with mediapersons here informed that the party has come to a seat-sharing understanding in 36 constituencies by initiating a series of dialogues with the other Left parties.

Our fight is against the Congress and the BJP. Both these parties have compromised the interests of the working class by their support for the liberal economic policy, said Barman slamming the BJP as a communal party that is not at all acceptable in a State like Assam known for its unity amidst diversity.

The development of Assam would be stalled if the Congress or the BJP wins the elections, said Barman.

It needs to be mentioned here that the party this time has given preference to young faces bowing to the changes sweeping across the State and Barman said that the party has carefully selected its candidates. Candidates with indepth knowledge of Left ideology and their performance over the years in spreading the ideology was the benchmark of our selection, said Barman.

In a week the party is going to release its manifesto and the main issues for the party would be privatization, price rise, NRC update, flood and erosion, unorganized sector, etc.
