CPI urges PC for early talks with ULFA

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, July 27 The state chapter of Communist Party of India has written to the Union Home Minister P Chidambaram demanding early talks with the banned ULFA and a logical solution to the conflict.

Promode Gogoi, member, national executive, CPI, has also forwarded a base paper to the Home Minister, which the party had submitted on 'True federalism: more power to Assam in 1999 during a seminar.

We hope that the open dialogue between the Government and the leadership of ULFA will be able to work out an acceptable and constitutional solution, Gogoi said.

He went on to say that the Assam State Council of the Communist Party of India fully supports the basic concept of the Constitution which defined the Union as India shall be Union of States.

On the issue of Lower Subansiri project, the party is in favour of suspending the construction work till an acceptable solution is fetched.
