MORIGAON, Feb 19 The Assam State unit of the Communist Party of India (CPI) organised a public rally here on February 16 against the price-rise of essential commodities and deep-rooted corruption in public life. The open meeting held on the occasion was presided over by CPI leader Purna Deka.

Addressing the gathering, Bhugeswar Dutta, State secretary, CPI, said that it is a matter of serious concern that the Congress-led UPA government was charged with scam after scam and crores of rupees were accumulated in Swiss Banks by several political leaders in a clandestine manner.

The common people have been badly hit due to price rise while the Central Government is blowing its own trumpet regarding the growth rate, Dutta added.

Ratul Bora, secretary, State unit of AISF criticised the Education policy of the Central Government.

Speaking on the occasion, CPI leader Munin Mahanta said that deep-rooted corruption at the rural level has crippled the normal life of peasantry of the State. He criticised the Tarun Gogoi-led State Government for the alleged siphoning off of government funds by his Cabinet colleagues.
