COVID caution thrown to the wind at Amit Shahs Amingaon event

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Dec 26 - At a time when detection of a new strain of the novel corona virus has thrown fresh challenges before the health sector, thousands of people today gathered at the Kumar Bhaskar Barman Kshetra at Amingaon violating all COVID-19 precautionary norms. Todays event at Amingaon was marked by Union Home Minister Amit Shah launching a string of new projects.

The gathering included public representatives including MLAs, MPs and party workers along with people from different walks of life. Despite the fact that the State continues to witness COVID-19 positive cases, no social distancing arrangements were made at the venue. A large number of people including top leaders of the ruling party were seen not wearing masks. Strangely, some MLAs of the ruling party were even seen taking selfies with the people violating all COVID-19 norms. All this coincided with Shah appreciating the Government of Assam, especially Health Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma, for the States success in the fight against COVID-19. He appreciated the fact that Assam has recorded a high recovery rate.

On the other hand, Health Minister Dr Sarma himself claimed that Assams COVID-19 management system has become an example for other states to emulate.

During the pandemic our doctors, nurses and other health workers had worked dedicatedly. They stood by the poor and the needy. Now, we are aiming to take the effort to the next level. Our aim is to turn Guwahati into a prominent destination for healthcare service in the entire South-East Asia, Dr Sarma said.
