Covid cases reach 144 in Lakhimpur

NORTH LAKHIMPUR, July 5 - The number of COVID-19 positive persons in North Lakhimpur district has risen to 144 following the detection of one more case today.

A worker engaged in the construction of North Lakhimpur Medical College at Sabat-Chowkham was found to be COVID-19 positive.

In the last 24 hours, four persons, all returnees from their workplaces outside Assam, tested positive for the disease. Two youths from Bosapukhuri and Keseruguri villages of Simaluguri in Dhalpur, who returned from Hyderabad on July 1 tested positive of COVID-19 after reports of their swab tests arrived in North Lakhimpur.

Another youth from No. 2 Rampur in Simaluguri in Dhalpur, who tested positive in Guwahati, was collected by Lakhimpur Health Department upon his arrival and sent to the Narayanpur-based covid hospital.

A COVID-19 positive case was also detected at Dhakuwakhona on Saturday. Additionally, a person from Gharmora village in the sub-division too tested positive following his return from Guwahati.

On Friday, Lakhimpur district registered a single day spike of 11 cases. Two youths of Christian Gaon and No. 1 Khalihamari, who were returnees from Bengaluru, tested positive, while another from Bodhakora near North Lakhimpur, a returnee from Chennai, too tested positive.

Further, two persons from Pathalipam under Kadam Revenue Cirlce, with no travel history, one each from Silikhaguri in Narayanpur and Khalihamari in Hawajan, coming from Bengaluru, also tested positive on Friday.

Two other persons from the district with travel history over short distances were also detected to be COVID-19 positive. An elderly couple too tested COVID-19 positive on Friday.

So far, 93 persons have been discharged after being cured of the disease in Lakhimpur district.
