Covid-19: Section 144 clamped in Lakhimpur dist

NORTH LAKHIMPUR, April 10: The Lakhimpur Deputy Commissioner Khargeswar Pegu has imposed prohibitary orders under Section 144 of the CrPC, 1973 following the re-emergence of Covid-19 in the State in general and Lakhimpur district in particular. Restrictions on public movements were imposed by the district authority vide order number LMJ/12/2020/99 dated April 9, 2021. The order has made wearing of masks by individuals in all public places, places of work, offices, markets, public and private transport and to keep social distances. It also bans spitting in public places and asks all the government and non-government institutions, business places, shops, hotels and restaurants to provide thermal scanners, sanitizers and wash facilities at entry points. Any violation of these restrictions would attract proceedings under Section 50-60 of Assam Disaster Management Act, 2005, said the order.

Earlier a hotel in the heart of North Lakhimpur was sealed by the Lakhimpur district administration as a checked-in guest coming from outside Assam tested Covid positive.

Maple Leaf Hotel was sealed by the district administration following one of its guests travelling from New Delhi was found with the virus. The guest had conducted Covid test at New Delhi prior to his departure to North Lakhimpur and its report reached North Lakhimpur Medical College Hospital on Monday. On April 6 another guest in the hotel, also travelling from outside tested Covid positive. RTPC test on the entire staff of the hotel was conducted.
